Slick movement, time powers, and ridiculously fun platforming make for a game that’s definitely set to be a Game of the Year contender at the end of 2024. A sweet Metroidvania with pixel-perfect platforming (from the same team that made Rayman Origins and Legends), don’t be afraid to give this one a try despite how different it is from its predecessors; you won’t regret it.

Best Fighting Game
Tekken 8 is the next-gen evolution of the long-running fighting game series that brings back several popular characters and adds new ones. Tons of fun comes with Tekken 8, from the new Heat mechanic to a fantastic story and exciting gameplay. It plays superbly on PS5.

Last to join the fray but definitely not the least, Tekken 8 rises to the forefront of the best fighters that you should be playing, dethroning Street Fighter 6 as the best fighter to play on PS5. The amazing character customization will have you turning your favorite fighters into your favorite characters from other series. If you’ve heard anything about the story mode, you’ll know it’s a ten out of ten, furthering the lore of the Tekken universe and providing a satisfying conclusion.
New mechanics and aggressive matches show that fighting games truly are making their grand return this generation. This tight, aggressive style really fits Tekken 8 and its style. There’s tons of fun to be had with Tekken 8, whether you’re playing casually or competitively, with fun character intros, hilarious interactions, and fun new characters. Tekken 8 is easily the best entry into the series so far.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth continues the story of Ichiban Kasuga, in the ninth mainline entry in the series formerly known as Yakuza. Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth is here, and it sees the loveable protagonist Ichiban and his rag-tag group of friends turned heroes living regular lives after the events of Like A Dragon. Of course, things can’t be that simple when it comes to Ichiban. If you’ve played Like A Dragon, this game is even better than its predecessor. Another best of the series, Infinite Wealth adds a wealth of new gameplay options, a unique experience with Kasuga and Kiryu, and improvements to its turn-based combat from its predecessor, making things more interesting and dynamic than before.

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is one of those perfect bite-sized in-between games to play while you can’t quite get into your longer titles and don’t want to suffer through dailies on your other ones. With the action combat making a return and a smaller map that still feels justifiably sizeable, you can get a great story and entry in the Like A Dragon series with Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Sea of Stars
Best Indie Game
Sea of Stars is an RPG with a hefty call back to the turn-based games of yesteryear, complete with stunning pixel-art aesthetic. Follow Valere and Zale, the Children of the Solstice, as they battle a terrifying alchemist and his monstrous creations. It’s a gorgeous nostalgic title perfect to play on your PlayStation.
